Deze week stond in het teken van de export van verschillende typen gevechtsvliegtuigen naar het Midden-Oosten en Arabische schiereiland.
In een blog schrijf ik zelf over de Joint Strike Fighter die wordt samengesteld uit delen uit verschillende landen, maar dat geldt ook de EFA Typhoon waarvoor de onderdelen worden gemaakt door Airbus in Duitsland en Frankrijk, Leonardo in Italië en BAe in het VK.
Aan de andere kant begon de week met het voorstel voor een resolutie om wapenexporten naar Saoedi-Arabië en haar bondgenoten in de oorlog tegen Jemen te stoppen.
Deze resolutie werd later in de week aangenomen, hoewel in afgezwakte vorm. Niet langer was sprake van de hele coalitie, maar van het initiëren van een wapenembargo naar Saudi-Arabië.
Het land voert de oorlog niet alleen. Aan zowel de blokkade als luchtoorlog nemen ook andere landen deel. Die blijven nu bij wijze van spreken buiten schot.

Voor Nederland viel op dat van de geroemde Damen OPVs van de Holland-klasse een belangrijk onderdeel niet deugde: de sprinkler installatie. De buizen zijn te zwak voor de druk die er op komt te staan. Het spreekt vanzelf dat het verhelpen daarvan een ingrijpende klus is die een jaar gaat duren.
